About this deal

Boebert said she wanted to “make it ver y clear that I did not want to receive anything that this man had to give me, nor did I know what he was handing me.” I was walking, had AirPods in, tried to tell the man that I was occupied, and he continued, and as he was handing me what turned out to be a memorial pin, I recognized him as a man who came at me very aggressively just a few weeks prior during a press conference,” Boebert said. “He was so aggressive that he was apprehended by another member and detained by Capitol Police officers.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) is finally explaining why she threw away a pin honoring a young victim of the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting seconds after receiving it. Boebert has previously been heavily criticized for posing with a shirt earlier this year that said “Since we’re redefining everything, this is a cordless hole puncher,” next to an illustration of an assault weapon. The photo was taken the day after another Texas mass shooting left five people dead, including a child. An AR-style rifle was also used in that shooting.

Delivery and return policies

These are the same green Converse on her feet that turned out to be the only clear evidence that could identify her after the shooting,” McConaughey said. Maite, 10, wore her green high-top Converse sneakers with a heart she had hand-drawn on the right toe to symbolize her love for nature.

Boebert has been very outspoken about her gun control stance and in May, she said “I unapologetically support the Second Amendment. No amount of gun control will ever eliminate evil in our society, and unsurprisingly, the data has shown time and again that gun control does not decrease gun violence.” We want secure and safe schools and we want gun laws that won’t make it so easy for the bad guys to get the damn guns,” McConaughey said. Members of Lives Robbed started handing out the pins as a response to Republican lawmakers’ wearing pins of AR-15s earlier this year.

Item details

According to the Lives Robbed organization, “Maite’s shoes are a symbol of her beauty and strength, and as a reminder that real people are dying every day from gun violence, including small, innocent children. Instead of celebrating AR-15s, let’s remember all that they have the power to destroy.” Uvalde native Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves McConaughey even took Maite’s shoes to the White House in June as the actor called for Congress to pass gun control legislation in honor of the Robb Elementary shooting victims. It’s unclear whether the green sneakers were the same ones worn by Rodriguez or whether they were similar shoes of the same brand and style.

The pin replicated the green Converse shoes that Maite Rodriguez, 10, was wearing when she was killed in the shooting. Those shoes enabled Maite’s family to identify her body after her death.
