Aaron Forsythe (October 22, 2012). " Modern Masters Explained". magicthegathering.com. Wizards of the Coast. Ashley, Monty (February 29, 2012). "Announcing "From the Vault: Realms" ". Wizards of the Coast. Archived from the original on March 1, 2012 . Retrieved February 29, 2012.

From the Vault: Twenty was released on August 23, 2013. It contained 20 cards, each of which represented a year in Magic's history, in commemoration of Magic's 20th anniversary. [24] 9 of the cards had new artwork. From the Vault: Realms: was released on August 31, 2012. It contained 15 cards, all of which were lands. [23] 7 of the cards had new artwork. This is the dual-land cycle I'm second proudest of designing, mostly because the high concept of it entertains me to no end. This is a cycle of five ally future-shifted land cards (aka cards from potential futures) each from its own cycle. Nimbus Maze is a dual land that provides colored mana if you control the other type of basic land (having an Island, for instance, gets you white mana). River of Tears provides one of two colors depending on whether or not you've played a land this turn. Graven Cairns filters one of two colors into any combination of two mana of the two colors. Grove of the Burnwillows has the downside of giving your opponent life. And Horizon Canopy is a dual land that makes you lose a life whenever you get mana out of it, but allows you to trade it in for a new card. Of this cycle, only Graven Cairns has gone on to have its cycle fleshed out (in Shadowmoor and Eventide), but we often discuss making cycles out of the other cards.

The pain lands were considered a success and for many years were the dual lands in the core sets (appearing in each one from Fifth Edition through Tenth Edition, with the exception of Eighth Edition).

Dark Confidant, a card designed by Bob Maher and a staple in both Modern and Legacy; originally printed in Ravnica: City of Guilds, printed in Modern Masters as a mythic rare with new art. Similar to the Modern Masters sets, it reprints cards, but from all of Magic's history rather than restricting itself to the Modern format, thus aiming itself at casual formats such as Cube as well as the Vintage and Legacy formats. From the Vault: Annihilation was released on August 22, 2014. It contains 15 cards, with a "sweep the battlefield" theme.
